Slovenia-based Petrol d.d. began operations in June, 1945, as a subsidiary of Jugopetrol, a Belgrade-based petroleum company owned by the Yugoslav government. It emerged as a separate legal entity in 1947. The primary activity of Petrol d.d. is petroleum products supply and sale. In addition to Slovenia Petrol d.d. operates through subsidiaries and affiliated companies in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Cyprus, Croatia, Montenegro, Austria, Albania and Macedonia. The company manages over 300 gas stations in Slovenia and abroad. Petrol d.d. sells over 2.0 million tons of petroleum products annually. The company was transformed into a joint-stock enterprise in 1997 with its shares traded on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE).
