Magasin General (SMG) is a state-owned supermarket chain established in 1920 in order to operate in the retailing sector focusing on general merchandise stores. The company`s chain of supermarkets developed its network in 1988 following the merger with the Magasins Modernes, after which it gained itself the position of the commercial chain with the biggest influence of the market in the country together with Monoprix and Carrefeour . The has around 45 supermarket-type outlets present in all the country.
