Ankara Sigorta was founded with the native capital in 1929 under the name of Anadolu Insuarance. Seven years later,in1936, it was founded by the same group, Is Bank group. Later, it was handed over the Eti Bank which was then a public bank. After Sabah Group bought the banking department of Eti Bank the company was in a sense without an owner. In other words, it was under the control of the Privatization Administration for almost three years. On April 21, 2000, 85% of its share was sold to Police Maintenance and Support Fund for $6.250.000- paid at once and in cash to the Privatization Administration. The Police Fund is one of the two private statute funds in Turkey.
