MAPFRE was established in 1995, becoming the first foreign private insurer to obtain permission to operate in the country after the monopolization of insurances. From then it has grown steadily, adding benefits and services to its policyholders and innovating in different areas of high level coverage of the Uruguayans. In Uruguay, the company operates in all lines except in the area of workers' compensations. Since 1st of January 2013 MAPFRE Uruguay S.A. merged with MAPFRE Uruguay Compania de Seguros S.A., the last one being absorbed by the first and transmitting 100% of its assets.
