Compañía Anónima Fábrica Nacional de Cementos was founded in 1907. It is dedicated to the manufacture and commerce of all kinds of cement and the operation of related industries from the quarry that it owns. In August 1994 the French group Lafarge, world leader in the sector of building materials, acquired the majority stake in the Fabrica Nacional de Cementos S.A.C.A. and C. A. Cementos Tachira. In 2008 the government of Venezuela nationalized the cement industry in the country.
