Makro Comercializadora S.A is is a major wholesaler that operates in the Venezuelan market, selling large volumes of food and nonfood products to its business customers. Makro began operations in The Netherlands in 1968 with the concept "Pay and carry" and soon expanded to other countries in Europe, in 1972 it started operations in South America, in 1988 in Asia. During 1997 it closed its operations in Europe and in 2014 in Asia, to concentrate its expansion in countries of South America. In Venezuela, the company has 21 stores of its own. The entity began its activities in the country in 1992 with the opening of its first store Makro La Urbina, located in the city of Caracas. Makro Venezuela is part of SHV, a family business founded in The Netherlands in 1896, from the merger of a large number of companies dedicated to marketing coal.
