Cong Ty Co Phan Dong Tau Song Cam is a company located in Hai Phong municipality. It is a subsidiary of the Industrial Shipbuilding Corporation. The company's main function is to build and repair water transport vehicles. The company originated as a small workshop owned by the nationalist bourgeoisie, Bach Thai Buoi. In the 1950s, due to competition from foreign capitalism, Bach Thai Buoi went bankrupt and had to sell the workshop to the French capitalist-owned Xo Pha company. On May 13, 1955, Vietnamese businessmen pooled their capital to buy back the workshop and renamed it Hai Phong Mechanical Company, which produced bicycle parts, tile-making machines, and 30-ton barges using riveting technology. On May 28, 1959, Hai Phong Mechanical Company became a joint venture and changed its name to Hai Phong Mechanical Enterprise. This marked a new era in the company's history, transitioning from capitalist ownership to socialist state ownership. This date is considered the company's traditional day. In March 1961, Hai Phong Mechanical merged with Shipyard II and transformed into a state-owned enterprise called Hai Phong Mechanical Plant. In 1983, with the development of technical infrastructure and a growing workforce, the scale of production increased. On March 28, 1983, Hai Phong Mechanical Plant was renamed Song Cam Shipbuilding Plant. In 2007, the state-owned enterprise implemented a renewal plan, and in April 2008, it officially became Cong Ty Co Phan Dong Tau Song Cam, operating at its headquarters at 8 Chi Lang Street, Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City. In November 2013, as part of the government's restructuring plan for Vinashin and the company restructuring plan by the Ministry of Transport, the Industrial Shipbuilding Corporation used the shipbuilding facilities of Ben Kien Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company to invest and expand the production scale of Cong Ty Co Phan Dong Tau Song Cam. In July 2018, the company completed the relocation of its production location from the city center to a new facility in Ngo Hung Village, An Hong Commune, An Duong District, Hai Phong City. Over the past 60 years, Cong Ty Co Phan Dong Tau Song Cam has experienced various historical stages and challenges in line with the development of Vietnam's revolution. From a small mechanical workshop, the company has made significant progress in repairing and building modern ships. The company has received numerous prestigious awards from the state during its development: - First-class Labor Medal in 1985, 1991, 1995, and 1999. - Third-class Independence Medal in 2002. - Second-class Independence Medal in 2009. - Hero of the Renewal Period in 2005. - Trusted Export Enterprise title in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012-2013, and 2014, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
