Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) is a Zambia-based company engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity. The Company's operations include operating and maintaining a network comprising transmission, distribution and generation assets and a control center on the Copperbelt; supplying power to the Copperbelt mining companies, including the provision of generation back-up for mining company emergency power requirements, and supplying power to Copperbelt for other users, principally Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation. CEC also serves the region by operating an inter-connector with the Democratic Republic of Congo, through which power is wheeled to Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. CEC’s transmission and distribution network consists of 884 kilometers of 220 kilovolt and 66 kilovolt transmission lines, 540 kilometers of optic fiber on power lines, 38 major substations and 80 megawatt of gas turbine generation.
