Brazil's retail sector experienced a significant slowdown in Q2 2025, contrasting sharply with the robust start of the year. According to the monthly trade survey (PMC) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), core retail sales volume registered a slight contraction of 0.1% in June 2025 compared to May, on a seasonally adjusted basis. The three-month moving average, which compares the average sales volume of the latest three months with that of the immediately preceding three-month period, declined by 0.3% in June 2025 (in other words April, May, June compared to January, February and March).
