Brazil Fintech Sector Report 2021-2022

The fintech sector in Brazil has gained attention in recent years, as it continues to develop pioneering solutions for underserved demands through technological innovation. Financial and monetary supervisory bodies have tried to follow fintechs’ evolution and implement adequate regulatory framework for its activities, in order to ensure both the sector’s growth and safety of its clients. Brazil’s central bank, in 2013, issued the first rules for the incorporation of fintechs into the National Financial System (SFN). Yet, 2016 was the first year fintechs actually entered the SFN. The total number of fintechs reporting to the central bank amounted to 76 at end-2020. But according to estimates of the Brazilian Fintechs Association (ABFintechs)―together with such global consultancies as KPMG, PwC, and local innovation hub Distrito―the actual total number of Brazilian fintechs reached 742 at end-2019.​
