Brazil Fintech Sector Report 2024 3rd Quarter

Fintech companies have become catalysts for transformation, bringing solutions that aim to make financial services accessible, especially to underbanked and unbanked populations such as that of Brazil. The expansion of digital financial services has increased financial inclusion pf the country and therefore it moved up 14 positions in the World Bank's Global Financial Inclusion Index from 35th to 21st place between 2022 and 2023. The fintech sector in Brazil encompasses a diverse range of players and services, however, only 275 were under the supervision of the country's central bank as of June 2024, qualifying them as part of the National Financial System (SFN). To join the SFN, companies must provide financial intermediation services and meet specific thresholds for transaction volume, equity, capital, and other criteria. As of June 2024, the sector included 134 credit fintechs, comprising 122 direct credit societies (SCD) and 12 peer-to-peer lending companies (SEP). Additionally, 141 payment processing institutions were regulated by the central bank by the end of June 2024.
