The Brazilian fintech ecosystem has proved to be highly adaptable despite a challenging economic scenario. The sector has recorded substantial expansion in both its customer base and product innovation, with a particular emphasis on serving small and medium-sized enterprises. The reliance on proprietary capital for funding has grown, and the majority of fintech firms are channelling investments into new technologies, especially artificial intelligence. By March 2025, 334 fintechs were operating under the supervision of the central bank, formally incorporated into the National Financial System (SFN). These firms are required to comply with regulatory thresholds covering transaction volumes, capital, equity, and other financial metrics. Credit fintechs made up a large share of the sector, reaching 151 by the March 2025, 21 more than the previous year. This segment comprised 139 Direct Credit Companies (SCDs) and 12 peer-to-peer lending platforms (SEPs). In addition, the number of payment processing fintechs rose to 183, representing a sharp increase of 55 compared with the prior year.
