In December 2023, the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC) had forecast a decline of 0.5% y/y for construction GVA in 2023, after a pace of three consecutive years of expansion above the national economy. However, a recovery is expected in 2024, with a projected increase of 1.3% y/y. This updated forecast signals a deterioration in the sector's performance, marking a substantial deviation from earlier expectations. In 2022, the construction GVA experienced a growth of 6.8% y/y. At the close of 2022, the CBIC had initially forecasted a 2.5% y/y upturn in construction GVA for 2023. However, by July 2023, this projection was revised downward to 1.5% y/y.
