Economic activity in Latin America has shown signs of recovery during 2024 and 2025. According to the International Monetary Fund's updated World Economic Outlook released in January 2026, regional GDP is now projected to grow by 2.4% in 2025, slightly higher than the 2% forecast in April 2025 and the 2.2% forecast in October. This upward revision reflects several factors, including lower-than-expected tariff measures in the US and a modest improvement in global financial conditions. Inflation, meanwhile, has been stabilising, albeit with significant variation across countries. In 2024, price pressures continued to ease, helped by lower international commodity prices and domestic policies aimed at containing inflation. While this moderation provides scope for a less restrictive monetary policy, global uncertainty and fiscal pressures in certain economies continue to limit the potential for deeper interest rate cuts.
