The real estate sector plays a sizeable role in the Brazilian economy, accounting for around 7.6% of the country's GDP in 2024, although this figure was well below the 8.4% share registered in 2019. From 2019 to 2024, the real estate sector's real GVA surged by 2.4% per year. Meanwhile, the construction sector registered a faster expansion in 2019-2024, surging by 4.2% y/y, although the share of the segment's GVA in total GDP declined from 3.4% in 2019 to 3.1% in 2024. The sector has rebounded from macroeconomic headwinds, with construction GDP expanding in real terms by 4.3% y/y in 2024 and is projected to grow by 2.3% y/y in 2025. This resurgence has been primarily driven by the revitalisation of the My House My Life (MCMV) programme, expanded infrastructure investment under the Growth Acceleration Programme (PAC) and resilient demand for both affordable and premium housing. Despite persistent challenges, such as high interest rates, inflationary pressures affecting materials and labour and ongoing funding constraints, the sector continues to play a pivotal role in national employment and economic growth, accounting for over 6% of formal jobs and contributing BRL 359.5bn to GDP in 2024.
