The revenue of China’s beverage sector jumped by 29.1% y/y to RMB 409bn in Q1 2021, driven by increased sales. Beverage retail sales for the same period surged by 37.8% y/y to RMB 64.4bn. The sector’s total profit reached RMB 76.8bn, up by 43.5% y/y. Nearly all beverage production saw a sharp increase in Q1 2021. The production of baijiu for the same period surged by 19% y/y to 2bn litres. The output of the other two major alcoholic beverages (beer and grape wine) rose by 49.6% and 44.8% y/y to 8.2bn litres and 84mn litres, respectively. The output of soft drinks soared by 35.5% y/y to 41.8mn tonnes.
