In Q3 2021, Chinese residents’ expenditures on medicine and medical services continued to increase. Per capita spending of urban residents reached RMB 635, up by 10.8% y/y, and that of rural residents recorded a growth of 9.8% y/y to RMB 422. During the quarter, the significant regional disparities in healthcare provision remained, with rural areas relatively underserved. Under the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the government plans to focus on cultivating more medical personnel, expanding rural medical infrastructure and enhancing the country’s hierarchical social medical system, to improve inclusion and equality of healthcare services across regions.
