In the second quarter of 2018 the total passenger traffic continued to decline, going down by 3.5% y/y to 4.4bn persons due to decreased passenger traffic in the highway subsector. In Q2 2018, highway passenger traffic fell by 6.8% y/y to 3.3bn persons, as more and more people preferred to travel by their own cars after the government lifted road tolls. Passenger traffic by private cars in H1 2018 increased by 10.2% y/y. However, the total passenger turnover in Q2 2018 was up by 5.4% y/y to 819bn person-km due to increased passenger turnover in the air and railway transportation subsectors. Passenger turnover in the air subsector during this period saw a significant growth of 16.4% y/y to 262bn person-km and passenger turnover in the railway transportation subsector climbed by 5.7% y/y to 335bn person-km.
