Colombia ICT Sector Report H1 2024

According to DANE (Colombia's statistical office), the information and communications sector in Colombia experienced a 1.4% y/y increase in its GVA during 2023 in real terms, losing momentum from the previous two years when double-digit growth rates were achieved. In line with this slowdown, Colombia's real GDP grew by 0.6% y/y in 2023 due to both external and internal conditions, such as a high interest rate and inflation environment that reduced private consumption. By the end of September 2023, the sector had 127.9mn subscribers, up by 6.8% y/y. Mobile services, both telephony and broadband, have become the main driver of growth in subscriptions, while subscriptions for pay TV and fixed-line telephony have remained steady in recent years. The best performing segment has been mobile broadband, which increased by 11.6% y/y at the end of Q3 2023, followed by mobile telephony which grew by 7.5% y/y. Fixed broadband increased by only 1% y/y, while pay TV and fixed-line telephony experienced a fall in subscribers by 0.2% y/y and 0.5 y/y, respectively.
