The electricity sector in CEE has shown distinct patterns in installed capacity, generation, consumption, prices, external trade and investment compared with broader EU trends. Poland has clearly dominated the region in installed capacity, with an average of around 54 GW over 2019-2024 and a robust 8.7% CAGR, driven by rapid additions in both renewables (notably solar) and conventional capacity to serve its large industrial base. This strong growth contributed to Poland's position as the largest net generator in the region, averaging around 154 TWh annually, well above the second-placed Czech Republic (around 76 TWh). In 2024 Poland also led renewables capacity with about 32.4 GW, indicating its faster uptake of wind and solar compared with peers. These trends suggest that economy size, industrial demand and supportive policies in Poland have collectively elevated its regional status in electricity.
