Czech Republic Mining Sector Report 2018/2019

The gross output of the mining and quarrying sector, including oil and natural gas extraction, accounted for 0.6% of the total gross output of the Czech economy in 2016, decreasing from 0.9% in 2012. The gross value added (GVA) of the sector as a share of the gross domestic product (GDP) also declined from 1.1% in 2012 to 0.7% in 2016. The declining share of the sector in total gross output and GDP was attributed to the declining foreign and domestic demand for the sector’s products, and the country’s dependence on imports of crude oil and natural gas, as well as to the country’s shortage of minerals. The sector employed 0.7% of all employees in the economy in 2016.
