Indians boosted their consumer electronics purchases in the year-end festive sales period, even as they cut back spending on most other items. Budget and premium segments have benefited at the expense of mid-ranged product lines as first-time and trading-up buyers, respectively, sought to improve their homebound lives. The Indian rupee’s strength against the US dollar helped to support consumer electronics sales in H2 2020 by restraining price increases on these primarily imported goods.
