Crude oil prices softened in March 2023 due to concerns emanating from the turmoil in the financial services sector in the US and Europe, which could have a contagion effect and take a toll on global economic growth. WTI prices for crude oil in January, February, and March averaged USD 78.12/bbl, 76.83/bbl, and USD 73.28/bbl, respectively. On March 17, 2023, the WTI touched a 15-month low of USD 66.61/bbl. The OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) price in January, February, and March 2023 averaged USD 81.62/bbl, USD 81.88/bbl, and USD 78.45/bbl, respectively. The ORB prices fell to the lowest level in 15 months, with a 4.2% m/m in March.
