Indonesia is an important global supplier of key crops such as rice, palm oil, rubber, banana and coffee. The country is also prominent in the production of rubber, coconut, sugarcane, mango, pineapple, oranges, tangerines, poultry meat and aquaculture products. Crop production volume rose by 2.8% y/y in 2022 due to the good performance in every major crop sub-segment (estate crops, rice, fruits and vegetables). Meat production rose by 13.6% y/y in 2022, pushed up by higher production in its three main products (poultry meat, pork and beef). Fisheries and aquaculture production slightly grew by 0.2% y/y in 2021. In line with this, the GVA of the Indonesian agribusiness industry reported an annual growth of 2.3% y/y in 2022. In spite of the good performance of the agribusiness industry in 2022, the sector presented a trade deficit in 2022 (the crop and livestock segments also presented trade deficits in 2022, while fisheries presented a trade surplus).
