Over the pact decade, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and a major manufacturing and trade hub. Key transport infrastructure projects currently underway in the region include: the East Coast Rail Link, a USD 12bn railway project that will connect Port Klang on the west coast to Kota Bharu on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Jakarta's mass rapid transit (MRT), USD 9bn Manila subway expansion, the construction of a new terminal at Singapore's Changi Airport, expected to be opened in the mid-2030s and to cost some USD 10bn.
