Poland Insurance Sector Report 2021-2022

With PLN 194bn of assets and PLN 63.8bn of premiums in 2019, the Polish insurance market is the largest in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). However, it remains far less saturated than Western European countries; the penetration rate is 2.8% compared with an average of 4.9% for Europe. In 2019 premiums rose by 2.6% y/y following a 0.3% y/y decline in 2018. The growth was due solely to non-life insurance premiums, which continued to increase steadily, up by 5.2% y/y to PLN 42.6bn. In life insurance, which five years previously constituted over half of the premiums, the consequences of bad reputation and increased competition continued to drive premiums down and they shrank by 1.8% y/y to PLN 21.3bn (33.4% of the total). ​
