Renewable energy deployment in Turkiye has gained remarkable momentum. The country added 10 GW of new renewable capacity to the grid in 2024, representing more than a three-fold increase compared to the 2.9 GW installed in 2023, according to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The surge has been driven primarily by the solar photovoltaic (PV) sector, which alone accounted for 7.9 GW of new capacity. This rapid expansion has firmly positioned Turkiye as the leading renewable energy (RE) market in Emerging Europe, with total installed renewable capacity reaching 74.1 GW as of May 2025. Renewables now represent around 60% of the country's total installed power capacity and contribute over 43% of total electricity generation, underscoring their growing role in supporting the nation's energy security and decarbonisation goals.
