The Mnogoprofilna Bolnitsa za Aktivno Lechenie Sveta Anna Sofia AD is a hospital located in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was founded on May 1, 1879, as a first-class regional hospital. It is one of the first seven hospitals opened in Bulgaria after the liberation from Ottoman rule. The hospital is the successor of the United District Hospital "Dr. Racho Angelov" and the Institute for the Treatment of Foreign Citizens, which merged in 2000 under the name University Hospital for Active Treatment Sveta Anna Sofia AD. The hospital takes pride in its team of elite doctors and its long-standing tradition, which has been a symbol of healthcare in Bulgaria for over 100 years. The hospital has been recognized for its excellence, with 25 doctors being included in the list of "Best Doctors in Sofia" for 2015. In 2016, the hospital became a partner of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee. The European Society of Hypertension (ESH) has certified the Internal Medicine Clinic at the hospital as one of the three centers in Bulgaria where arterial hypertension is most effectively diagnosed and treated. The hospital has acquired state-of-the-art laser technology for the treatment of kidney stone disease, which is minimally invasive and guarantees a high success rate. The Gastroenterology Department has also received a new video system for upper and lower endoscopy, allowing for precise diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases and early detection of stomach and colon cancer. The new Emergency Department of the hospital is located on an area of over 1000 square meters and is equipped with modern technology, including ultrasound equipment, digital X-ray, a clinical laboratory, and emergency resuscitation equipment. The total investment for the department exceeds 1 million Bulgarian lev, provided by the Bulgarian government. The department also has a modern helipad. The new Emergency Department is part of the formation of a comprehensive Stroke Treatment Center, which includes the purchase of a new angiograph and scanner. This allows for a complete circle of care, from patient admission to imaging and laboratory diagnostics to interventional treatment. The hospital expects to serve over 40,000 people annually in the new Emergency Center.
