Toplofikacia Sliven, established in 1969, is the steam heating utility operating in the eastern Bulgarian town of Sliven.
The firm, which owns a pipeline network of more than 137 kilometres (85 miles), delivers heat to more than 14,800 flats with 50,000 citizens in the town of 112,000 residents.
The district heating company, which operates two coal-fed steam-boilers, four gas-fed steam-boilers, two water-heating boilers and one turbo generator, has a total heating capacity of 493 megawatts (MW).
In August 2006, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency launched a tender for the sale of 100% of Toplofikacia Sliven equity. In April 2007, the agency sold 100% in the heating utility for EUR 6.52 million to lignite mine operator Black Sea Mine – Burgas (Mina Cherno More - Burgas), allegedly controlled by local energy heavyweight Hristo Kovachki.
