Cargill Takarmany Zrt. (Hungary)

Cargill Takarmany Zrt. is a company located in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 1894 by William H. Danforth, who started the business based on the advice of his father to provide a product that many people would need throughout the year, regardless of external factors. The company's history spans over 100 years and has proven to be successful. In Hungary, the company's presence dates back to the 1970s when Purina® products were introduced to the local market. The animal feed products were mainly imported from West Germany and Italy. In the 1980s, a license agreement was made between Ralston Purina Company and HAGE Rt., resulting in the production of new products with the help of Purina at the HAGE Rt. factory in Karcag. This partnership allowed for further development, and in 1990, the first joint venture, Purina-Hage Rt., was established, with Ralston becoming a shareholder. The early 1990s were a period of continuous success, leading to the American side acquiring the shares of HAGE Rt. at the end of 1995 and renaming the company to Purina Hungária Rt., which became fully owned. In the fall of 1997, the company opened its second factory in Kaposvár, which was a greenfield investment utilizing state-of-the-art technology. In 1998, Ralston Purina Company sold its animal feed division, leading to the creation of AGRIBRANDS International Inc., which continued the production and distribution of Purina® products in Hungary and 16 other countries worldwide. The Hungarian unit was renamed Cargill Takarmany Zrt. In 2000, the older Karcag factory underwent a complete reconstruction to meet the demands of the 21st century. In 2001, as a result of a merger, the company's parent company became Cargill Inc., which integrated the Purina® brand into its existing brand structure. Following the merger with Provimi in 2011, Cargill incorporated this brand into its brand system. Since November 2011, the company has been meeting the needs of small and large-scale partners in the North Transdanubia region with the help of its factory in Pápa.
