LESAFFRE Magyarorszag Elesztogyarto es Kereskedelmi Kft. is a company located in Budapest, Hungary. The company has a long history, dating back to the 19th century when yeast production began in Budapest in 1876. The original factory, founded by Mihály Gschwindt, was located on Üllői Street, where the Corvin cinema is now situated. In 1908-1910, the factory relocated to its current site in Budafok. The company was owned by the Gschwindt family until it was nationalized after World War II in 1946. Following nationalization, the company's name changed to Budapesti Szesz- Élesztő- és Likőrgyár. Due to industry reorganizations in 1963, the company's name changed again to Szeszipari Országos Vállalat Budafoki Élesztő és Szeszgyár. In 1971, the Szeszipari Vállalatok Trösztje was established, and one of its subsidiaries was the Budapesti Szeszipari Vállalat, which included the yeast factory. From 1984, BUSZESZ became an independent entity. In 1992, BUSZESZ Rt, including the yeast factory, was acquired by the Austrian company Mautner Markhof. In 1995, Budafok Élesztő- és Szeszgyár Kft. became an independent company. In 1996, the French Lesaffre group acquired the company. Lesaffre is a global leader in yeast production and various bakery additives, operating in over 180 countries on all five continents. The management of the Budafok factory by Lesaffre marked a new chapter in its history. Thanks to recent billion-dollar investments, the factory now represents cutting-edge technology, surpassing all previous levels of yeast quality. Today, it is the largest yeast production and distribution facility in Central Europe. The company currently operates in more than 10 countries. As of May 4, 2006, the company officially changed its name to Lesaffre Magyarország Kft., aiming to strengthen and emphasize its affiliation with the world-leading Lesaffre group in yeast production.
