Erste Bank AD Podgorica was established in May, 2002 under the name Opportunity Bank. It was the first fully- licensed bank of UK-based micro-lending charity Opportunity International in the region.
The bank is a successor of Microcredit Montenegro (MCM), which was founded in 1999 as a non-government, non-profit organisation offering loans to small-businesses in the Adriatic coast republic of Montenegro.
In February 2009, Croatian Erste & Steiermarkische Bank, part of Austrian Erste Group, aquired a 100% stake in the bank for EUR 13 million. The Montenegrin lender was renamed to Erste Bank AD Podgorica later the same year.
The lender provides a wide range of financial products and services to individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises. It attends its clients through a network of nearly 20 branch offices nationwide.
