Global Vietnam Aluminium Company Limited (Vietnam)

GVA is an export processing enterprise, specializing in processing and supplying aluminum billet. It imports from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Canada, South Korea… and exports 100% of its products to USA, Canada…Around Oct 2019, the USA newspaper "The Wall Street Journal" revealed that Global Vietnam Aluminium Company Limited was suspected of relating to the case of Chinese aluminum in the disguised of Vietnamese in order to export to the USA at a price worth about USD 4.3 billion. The Director of the Post-Clearance Inspection Department (General Department of Customs) Mr. Nguyen Tien Loc said that through the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States, the US proposed to Vietnam, specifically the Customs agency to handle the above case. Through the investigation process, Mr. Loc affirmed that as of July 2020, the Customs Agency did not have enough grounds to conclude the violation of origin for the aluminum quantity of GVA. After that, the State Audit transferred the file to the investigating agency, requesting to clarify the behavior of transfer pricing and tax evasion of the subject. Currently, the investigation has not ended because of the lack of incriminating evidence, and GVA is still operating under the supervision of the authorities. During our interview, the subject employee was quite reserved and unwilling to confirm the information.
