Bharat Coking Coal Limited (India)

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is a public sector undertaking located in Dhanbad. It was incorporated in January 1972 to operate coking coal mines at Jharia and Raniganj coalfields, which were acquired by the Government of India on October 16, 1971. BCCL plays a crucial role in the coal mining industry as it produces the majority of the coking coal in the country. It caters to approximately 50% of the integrated steel sector's prime coking coal requirement. The company currently operates 36 coal mines, including 1 underground, 4 opencast, and 20 mixed mines. Additionally, BCCL runs 8 coal washery facilities, with 4 more under construction. The mines are divided into 13 zones for administrative purposes. As of October 31, 2022, BCCL had a total manpower of 37,824 employees.
