Bosna Bank International d.d. (BBI) was founded on October 19, 2000 as the first bank in Europe to operate under the principles of Islamic banking. Islamic banking is based on the Shariah – a religious law that strictly forbids operation with interest.In March 2002 the banking agency of Bosnia's Muslim-Croat Federation issued a permit to BBI to perform domestic payment operations. In November the same year the bank received a license to carry out deposit insurance as well.BBI operates a network of nearly 20 branches across Bosnia. The bank is specialized in providing banking services for corporate and retail clients.
