Banco del Desarrollo is a private company of social interest, which focuses on providing support to those sectors of the population that have less opportunities to reach the traditional financial system. Its emphasis is centered on the middle, small and microenterprises, and people of the lower-income bracket. During the last decade it become one of the fastest growing banking institutions in Chile. Since its founding in 1983, it have built a solid base in order to give support to more than 260,000 clients, through an extensive network of 68 branch offices that cover the entire nation. In 2007, the bank was acquired by Scotiabank.
