The Company is engaged in the business of manufacture and sale of telecommunication equipments. The Company offers a range of telecom products and total solutions covering the whole spectrum of switching, transmission, and access and subscriber premises equipment. The Company's principal products include electrical apparatus for line telephony or line telegraphy, transmission apparatus and reception apparatus for radio-telephony, radio-telegraphy. Its products include dwdm products, switching, transmission, broadband equipment, customer premises equipment, global system for mobile communications (GSM) - fixed cellular telephone (FCT) and Wimax CPE. The Company's Defence Products include Order wire secrecy (OWS), Mil PCM Secrecy, ANANDA MK II, STM 1 Encryptor, BEU IP and FAX Encryptor. Network systems unit (NSU), which is an independent business group of the Company, specializes in providing telecom network and services.
In 1950: The Company was incorporated as a private limited Comp. on January 25, 1950 at Bangalore. The Company was the first public sector undertaking started in 1948 by Government of India after independence.
In 1979 : 90,064 shares allotted without payment in cash. Out of total shares issued, 31,250 shares were held by Karnataka Government 14, 68,750 shares were held by Govt. of India.
In 1982 : 15, 00,000 shares issued to Government of India.
In 1983 : 17, 00,000 shares issued to Government of India.
In 1984 : 23, 00,000 shares issued to Government of India.
In 1985 :
The Company became a public limited Comp. on November 23, 1985. The main objects is to design, manufacture supply telecommunication equipment such as telephone instruments, electromechanical exchanges, transmission systems, electronic exchanges ground stations for satellite communications.
The Company has its own R D division to play its role in technology innovation, up gradation adaptation. Advanced facilities infrastructure were established for research and product development.
- It was proposed to be met by floating bonds to the public, funds in the form of budgetary support from Government internal accruals.
- 18, 00,000 shares issued to Government of India.
In 1986 : The Company listed at Bombay Stock Exchange on December 19, 1986.
In 1995 :
- The Company designed developed PABX Exchange [MPABX-1000s] at Mankapur plant, for provision up to 850 lines for operation. One Exchange was installed at Dehradun others were under installation.
- The Army Static Switched Communication Network [ASCONs] was designed, developed, manufactured installed by Company.
- New products inducted during the year are Digital Power Gain System [EK ANCHs], 11 GHZ Digital Microwave Equipment, Display Telephone Instrument and HDSL.
- The Comp. proposed to offer new products viz. Transmission and subscriber end equipments, wireless loop, digital loop carrier besides HDSL equipment.
- ITI Equatorial Satcom limited changed its name to M/s. India Satcom Ltd.
In 1996 :
- The Company entered into VSAT/MRTS Services. Also OCB 283/CSN projects were being implemented in the three manufacturing plants of ITI viz. Palakhad, Bangalore Mankapur.
The Company undertook to install three manufacturing plants viz. Palakhad [1000 KLOCB 283s], Bangalore [1500 KL CSNs] Mankapur [500 KL CSNs]
- The 16 KL main exchange was installed at Indranagar 14 KL RSU installed at various location viz., whitefield Ulsoor, K.R. Puram etc. of Bangalore.
- New products such as ARMY VSAT, 8 Mb OLTE, Transportable Satellite Terminals were inducted new technology for 6 GHZ M/W equipment was introduced. The Mankapur plant developed a New Power for recovery of core for rejected transformers.
-The Company proposed to offer new products covering switching access products, transmission subscribed end equipment's. Some of products to be introduced include wireless local loop, digital loop carrier besides fairgain HDSL equipment.
- The Company Equatorial Satcom limited Singapore Styled ITI Communication Pvt limited are joint ventures of Company.

- The Indian Telephone Industries [ITIs], Bangalore plant, which has been going through a rough patch for some time, finally seems to be coming out of woods, as they bagged the International Quality Management System Standard ISO-9002 for its new products division.
- Qualcomm Inc., the pioneer of CDMA [code division multiple access] technology for wireless communications, has entered into a strategic alliance with Indian Telephone Industries [ITIs].
- The Company has entered into a 76.24 joint venture with the US-based Comp. Celcore. ITI under this marketing joint venture will produce cellular equipment for niche market.
- Celcore Inc of US ITI limited have signed a joint venture agreement to market, sell service global system for mobile [GSMs] cellular systems.

In 1998 :
- The Company the country largest telecom Comp. has won IMM award for excellence as Marketing Comp. in the Organised Sector for year 1998. The award comprising of gold, silver trophy a certificate of merit.
- The Company will soon introduce the automated system technology for payment of bills for coin change machines.
- Indian Telephone Industries [ITIs] its joint venture concern are set to bag a substantial portion of Rs. 118-crore tender for synchronous digital hierarchy [SDHs] equipment which was opened recently by Department of Telecommunications [DoTs].
- The Company has set up very large scale integration [VLSIs] fabrication unit to manufacture highly critical integrated circuits [chipss] with an investment of Rs 153 crore, at its Bangalore plant.
In 1999 :
-CMC Limited signed an agreement with The Company to implement an Enterprise Resource Planning software at the companies' facility at Mankapur in Gonda district.

-The Company has informed that Shri. B P Gupta has been appointed as Director-Finance of Comp. by Government of India vide Ministry of Communications IT letter dated December 31, 2007.
In 2008 :
-The Company has informed that Shri K.K. Khurana has been appointed as Director-HR of ITI Limited by Government of India vide Ministry of Communications IT letter No. 4-7/2007-Fac-II dated 04.04.2008. He has assumed office on 04.04.2008.
-The Company has informed that BIFR vide letter dated March 25, 2008 appointed Shri. C K Koshy as Special Director on the Board of Director of Comp. u/s 16[4s] of Sick Industrial Companies [Special Provisionss] Act, 1985.
In 2009 : (The Company notches-up highest turnover in seven years).
In 2010 : K. L. Dhingra has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director.
In 2011 :
-Shri Ravi Khandelwal has been appointed as Director-Finance of ITI Limited.
-Shri. N K Srivastava, Sr. DDG (TEC). Department of Telecommunications as Government Director on the Board of the Company.
In 2012 : Lt. Gen S. P. Kochhar, AVSM, SM, VSM, Signal Officer in-charge, Ministry of Defence and Shri N. K. Joshi, DDG (SU), Department of Telecommunication, New Delhi have been appointed as Government Directors on the Board of ITI Limited.
In 2013 :
-The Company Bags National Safety Awards from Ministry of Labour Employment. -ITI signs MoU with TSSC for special focus on Skill Development in the Telecom Industry.
-The Company listed at Metropolitan Stock Exchange on February 11, 2013.

In 2014 : The Company signs MoU with Department of Telecommunications. -ITI bags largest Non-RQ order for NFS. -An MoU was signed between M/s. ITI and M/s. HAL for exploring mutually beneficial business opportunities in the manufacturing and service domains.
In 2015 : The Company celebrated Vigilance Awareness Week -ITI Limited gets “Certificate of Excellence Award -ITI signed MoU with HAL.
In 2017 : The Company bags Rs 7000 cr defence project.
In 2018:
-The Company Conferred with National Safety Awards: ITI Limited, Raebareli and Bangalore Plant have won the prestigious National Safety Award in three categories for the performance year 2016. The Company, Bangalore Plant, Karnataka received the certificate of National Safety Award as winner for excellent performance in Industrial Safety based on Accident Free Year. The Rae Bareli Plant (U.P.) of the Company conferred the award for outstanding performance in Industrial Safety as runner up in achieving Lowest Average Frequency Rate and in achieving Accident Free Year. The award was presented by Honorable Minister of State for Labour Employment (Independent Charge), Government of India, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar to Shri K Alagesan, Chairman Managing Director, the Company in the presence of Shri Heeralal Samariya, Secretary, Minister of Labour Employment, Government of India on September 17, 2018.
In 2020:
