Compania Minera Antamina, began operations in November 2001 with an investment of U.S. $ 2.260, at that time represented the largest in the history of Peruvian mining. Antamina open pit is exploited and is one of the top ten mines worldwide in terms of trading volume, the third zinc producing mine and according to Brook Hunt report, is considered the ninth copper mine in the world. The company produces copper and zinc concentrates and other minerals such as molybdenum, silver, lead and bismuth, obtained secondarily in the production process. Antamina exports copper and zinc mainly to China, Germany, Japan and Chile.
